About the Harnett County Aquatic Club
The Harnett County Aquatic Club
(HCAC) is a non-profit membership
organization that sponsors a year-round swim
team, the Hurricanes. The HCAC
Hurricanes participate in swim meets sanctioned
by the United
States Swimming Association, the most widely
recognized sanctioning body of amateur swimming
in the country. Times achieved at USS meets
enable swimmers to qualify for the North Carolina
(state), regional, and national championships. Our membership has included swimmers from Southern Wake and Harnett counties,
including Angier, Buies Creek, Lillington, Kipling, Fuquay Varina, Garner, and
nearby communities.
Team Philosophy
The purpose of the Harnett County Aquatic Club
is to contribute to the swimmer's development
in three ways: physically, mentally, and socially.
Swimmers learn superior stroke technique, and
develop a competitive mind set through hard
work, self-discipline, and lots of fun. By attending
swim meets and cheering for their fellow Hurricanes,
swimmers also acquire a strong sense of camaraderie
and team spirit.
Benefits of Year-Round Swimming
- Increased self-confidence through setting
and achieving goals
- Lifetime enjoyment of a non-contact sport
- All-inclusive participation with every swimmer
competing at his or her own level
- Improved academic performance due to commitment
to excellence in all areas of the swimmer's
life
- Lifelong friendships
Requirements to Join
To join HCAC, swimmers must be able to swim
25 yards freestyle, with face in the water,
using rotary breathing; and 25 yards backstroke.
Completion of American Red Cross Level III swimming
lessons is highly recommended.
Financial Obligations
Every organization has bills to pay, but the
HCAC tries to make membership as affordable
as possible and equitable for all its members.
Details of membership dues are included in the
team
registration contract, but the basic financial
obligations for membership include:
- Annual registration fee of $125 per family
due September 1
- USA Swimming registration fee of $45 per
athlete due September 1
- Monthly dues of $80 for Gold
swimmers, and $70 for Silver
and Bronze
swimmers due the first of each month. A $10
discount is provided for multiple swimmers
from the same family. For example, if you
had a Silver swimmer and two Bronze swimmers,
your total monthly dues would be $190 (or
$70 + $60 + $60).
- In addition, each family is responsible
for an annual minimum fund-raising commitment
of $300.
- Entry fees for each meet range are approximately
$35, due at the time of meet registration.
These fees cover USA Swimming and NC Swimming
charges, meet charges, and traveling expenses
for our coaches.
